Govt mollifies migrants,announces Rs 18 lakh compensation grant

Finally to placate the migrants,the state government today announced a grant worth Rs 18 lakh,which will be distributed among the migrant families who suffered losses during Dhandari clash incidents.

Apart from this,Rs 1 lakh will be given to the family of Amir Hasan who died due to bullet injury in these clashes.

This was announced today by Cabinet Minister Hira Singh Gabria while addressing a meeting of the migrants in which the chairman of the Parvasi Board,R.C Yadav,who had come on his maiden visit to the city,was present. The meeting took place at the Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura’s office in Sherpur,which was attended by hundreds of migrants.

Later while talking to Newsline,Yadav said,“The CM has intimated deputy commissioner Vikas Garg that compensation amount will reach him soon. This is a first step to build confidence among the migrants who are still in a state of terror.”

Yadav,who is an Amritsar-based industrialist,also visited many colonies like Ishwar colony,Durga colony,Gobindgarh,Prem Nagar etc areas to listen to the problems faced by the migrants.

A seven-member Parvasi Board was formed about about a fortnight ago following Dhandari clashes. A few days ago,Yadav also met the industrialists in Ludhiana. He said,“Till date,strength of the workers in factories is far less than adequate but I am sure that from today onwards it will start improving. The government is now sincerely trying to redress the problem.”

Yadav is also busy doing Nukkad meetings these days in Ludhiana colonies with large migrant population. Meetings will be done in other parts of the state as well,he said.

Talking about the incidents,he said,”What I have understood is that they were not being heard by police which forced them to protest. However some anti-social elements misguided them and hence the protest took a violent turn. “ The board,which is first of its kind in any state so far,will have its office in Mohali.
