Even as a garbage compactor (big vehicle used to compress garbage) was stuck for the past three days in front of Civil Surgeon office, near Fountain Chowk, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation claimed it was unaware of the incident. The compactor, full of garbage was not only emitting foul smell since three days but also blocked the traffic. What is even more appalling is the cause of the vehicle getting stuck on the road. MC once again stood exposed after a portion of the road caved-in,in front of Civil Surgeon office, and the tyres of the garbage vehicle got stuck. Being one of the poshest area of the city, the residence of police commissioner also lies on same road. However,MC was unaware of any such incident. A resident of the area said,The vehicle got stuck after road here caved in and since then no MC official visited the site. The van, however, belongs to A2Z,the company given contract for garbage collection in city. A2Z officials visited the spot and tried to get out the vehicle from the cave-in but they were not successful. When contacted,A S Sekhon, joint commissioner MC and incharge of health and sanitation wing, said,I am not aware of any such incident. A2Z did not inform us. But i will enquire about the matter. On the other hand,B S Chouhan, vice president of A2Z blamed road cave-in and said,We tried to pull out vehicle multiple times but it did not come out. Then we called for hydraulic system to pull out the vehicle. However,a MC source said that there was a tiff between MC and A2Z as to who should pay rent for the system.
