In a bid to help unemployed youth and women,the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has decided to focus on newer livestock professions that are easy to adopt,according to the University Vice-Chancellor V K Taneja. The V-C said the institution was putting additional efforts to explore new avenues in the livestock sector. Taneja said the recently developed value added products from milk,Dodha and Mishti Dahi will be released for the public during the two-day Pashu Palan Mela that will begin on September 22.
He further added that College of Dairy Science and Technology is working on new and better flavours of Ice cream.
Lineman electrocuted,union protests
Gurpal Singh,a 41-year-old lineman working on a contract basis with the Punjab State Power Corporation limited(PSPCL) was electrocuted on Monday while doing repair work at Gill Road.
According to Raghbir Singh,senior vice-president of unemployed linesmen union,The repair work was going on without any permit and even after one and a half hours of the incident,no officer came to the spot.
The incident happened late on Monday evening and the union members staged dharna by blocking Gill Road.
The union members allege that lack of proper safety measures has led the field staff to face accidents. K M Sharma,Chief Engineer,PSPCL when contacted confirmed the mishap and said, Our officers must be on the way and we are equally concerned about the incident. We will compensate the family after inquiry.
The deceased was the father of two kids.
