Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal will address public functions at villages of Jaiton constituency in Faridkot for the first time since the October 12 desecration incident. As a part of sangat darshan programme, to be held ahead of the Assembly elections, Sukhbir will address three meetings and meet the panchayats of all the 81 villages of Jaiton constituency Thursday. Sukbir will held meetings at three blocks — Jaiton, Bajakhana and Pangrain. Sukbir chose to start his Sangat Darshan programme from the Jaiton constituency. Tight police security will be put in place at all the places where Sukhbir will hold the meetings. He is expected to dole out funds to each village panchayat to woo votebank. Village panchayats were asked to make a list of the development works to be done in their areas. Panchayats of Niamiwala and Sarawan villages had given him a memorandum two months ago seeking development of over a crore in each village. Burj Jawahar, from where the theft of Guru Granth Sahib was reported on June 1, 2015; Bargari, where the desecration incident took place and Behbal Kalan, where two were killed in police firing — all fall under the jurisdiction of Bajakhana block. Sukhbir had once visited Niamiwala and Sarawan villages to meet the families of Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjeet Singh who were killed in police firing. After Jaiton, Sukhbir will tour the rest 116 constituencies in phases.
