DC office clerical staff observe ‘pen down’ strike

Deputy Commissioner Employees Union Staff observed a pen-down strike on Thursday against their pending demands which have not been implemented.

Deputy Commissioner Employees Union Staff observed a pen-down strike on Thursday against their pending demands which have not been implemented. While the staff occupied their seats they refrained from any work. As a result of this,general public work was halted.

The pen down strike will continue till Friday,confirmed Shyam Sunder,general secretary of the union. Their demands include creating of a law department at district headquarters which can guide the staff in legal matters; appointment of more staff for the new districts of Fazilka,Nawanshaher,Pathankot,among others. All the demands had already been met by the Government but were not being implemented,said the members.

The staff,however,began issuing caste certificates to candidates contesting the panchayat polls by Thursday afternoon as the last date of filing nomination papers is June 21.

The union members said that they will start working from Monday onwards and will intensify the struggle after the next meeting of union members.
