The police on Wednesday claimed to have busted the Ghuggi gang with the arrest of five people and recovery of weapons from their possession. The accused were arrested near the Grain Market close to Jalandhar bypass in Salem Tabri area.
According to police, those arrested were planning to kill Mohini, the kingpin of their rival gang, and were involved in multiple loot cases.
The accused have been identified as Deepak Kumar alias Ghuggi, a resident of Field Ganj, Vikram Sharma alias Kala, Davinder Singh alias Chotta, Pankaj Arora alias Bittu and Deepak alias Deepu. The police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol and cartilages along with sharp-edged weapons.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said the accused were planning a loot when a police team, which had received a tip off, arrested them.
The ADCP claimed that the accused had planned to loot hosiery goods and ATM card users in Transport Nagar. Bhullar said that during investigation, the accused revealed their plan of killing, a local gangster out on bail.
A case has been registered against the accused at the Salem Tabri police station.
