Finance and Contract Committee sanctions Rs 70 crore for projects ahead of Vidhan Sabha polls
Ahead of the Vidhan Sabha elections, the Finance and Contract Committee (FCC) of the Municipal corporation cleared a total of 265 development projects with a cost of more than Rs 70 crore. The committee met on Wednesday to clear the maximum number of pending files before the imposition of code of conduct.
Sources in the MC stated that the meeting of FCC was perhaps the last one before implementation of code of conduct. However Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal said,We may meet again. We have no idea when the election code of conduct will be imposed.
Meanwhile the important works which have been cleared are revision of funds of closure of Field Ganj ganda nallah. This budget has been revised from Rs 19.8 crore to Rs 21 crore. This project was originally for Rs 15 crore, when it was inaugurated in 2006. But it was left incomplete due to objections by SAD-BJP candidates regarding the design of the nallah closure. However it was re-started recently with minimum changes with an escalated cost of Rs 19.8 crore and now it has been further revised to Rs 21 crore. Apart from this,FCC cleared another project of nallah closure in Transport Nagar with a cost of Rs 19.86 crore.
FCC also cleared the purchase of 10 more buses for city bus service scheme. With this decision, the total budget of the project has been increased to Rs 72 crores from the existing Rs 67 crores. MC Commissioner A K Sinha said,200 buses are being purchased under Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) while 10 more buses will be purchased by the MC.
