Revenue union on strike

The Revenue Patwar Union Tehsil in Ludhiana has begun an indefinite strike. The members are protesting against the inaction of the police concerning a property dealer,who had allegedly torn an official record of Patwari Jeet Singh and forced him to do his work. The incident happened in January,2009 and till date,no action has been taken against the dealer. General secretary of the union,Dalip Singh Padda,said the case is pending with the police and alleged that the accused was being protected.

‘Zero tolerance for ragging’

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari has stated that ragging is banned in all educational institutions and all those who indulge in it will be taken to task. He said this while chairing a meeting on Monday at Bachat Bhawan. He asked students to call his cellphone number 9988113236 or SMS him in case they face such problems. Checking needs to be conducted by the heads of institutions in hostels to protect students from ragging,he added.

Update arms info,says top cop

Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh has urged those who possess arms in the city to ensure that information regarding the arms and the license are updated at the nearest police station. “To ensure peace and law and order in the city,it is mandatory that information regarding arms be updated at the concerned police stations. Starting May 23,we have given a month’s time to all arms holders to ensure that the required information is with the police. Failing which,strict action will be taken against the defaulters.”
