CII,District Industry Centre in bid to curb industry flight from state

CII Ludhiana Chapter and Ludhiana DIC have taken a joint initiative to spread awareness on existing and recently launched schemes by the state and Union governments to promote Industry.

Looking at the move of Punjab industrial units, which are shifting their units outside and even undertaking expansion outside the state, the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Ludhiana Chapter and Ludhiana District Industry Centre (DIC) have taken a joint initiative to spread awareness on existing and recently launched schemes by the state and Union governments to promote Industry here. Under this joint initiative,a series of interactive sessions will be organised to update Ludhiana-based industry. The first such closed-door interactive session of this series was recently organised at the Ludhiana District Industry Centre.

In her opening remarks on the occasion,CII (Ludhiana Chapter) Vice-Chairperson Sandeep Riat said,“The objective of this initiative is to update industry about the various beneficial schemes available for industry. Those are sponsored by the state and Union governments. In a city like Ludhiana, which once used to be called the Manchester of India and was a key contributor to both the state’s and country’s economy, there is an urgent need to promote its industrial belt once again.”

“Due to some factors, the majority of the industries are planning to move out of Punjab. For the benefit and promotion of industry in Ludhiana,it is important that some incentives or special benefits be provided to industry in order to promote and upgrade it and, importantly,to retain those business houses that plan to move out of the state. We sincerely hope that this kind of initiative will help boost industry in this region,” added Riat.

Addressing the session,CII Ludhiana City Core Group Convener Rahul Ahuja said,“Ludhiana is known not only as an industrial city. It is the city which produced a larger number great entrepreneurs and skilled personalities than any other city in the country. Such people have contributed immensely to India’s economy via their skill and knowledge.”

“To produce more and more quality entrepreneurs,we need more and more enterprises to set up their functional units here. The pre-existing ones too should be upgraded so as to meet world class standards. There are a number of schemes available for all these purposes, right from starting a new unit to upgradation of existing ones and anyone who wants to be an entrepreneur can easily avail of such schemes,” Ahuja pointed out.

District Industry Centre General Manager Vishav Bandhu, his senior officers S S Rekhi and Rakesh Pathak, and MSME Development Institute (Ludhiana) Assistant Director B S Nagi discussed various schemes and held interactions on the key issues faced by industrial units while applying for such schemes.

The session received a positive response, with more than 50 delegate from Ludhiana-based industries attending it.
