A Chrysanthemum show and a painting competition were held at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha,Sarabha Nagar,on Sunday. More than 200 varieties and sub-varieties of chrysanthemum were displayed at the show. The show also consisted of competition in various varieties of the flower as well as in flower pot arrangement in which a large number of individuals and educational or industrial institutions took part. The on-the-spot painting competition on the theme of environment or trees and flowers was held in three groups: group I (Classes I to V),group II (Classes VI to XII) and group III (college students and others). The first prize in the group I was bagged by Meher Kaur of Sacred Heart Convent School while Gursimran Kaur of Guru Nanak International School was adjudged the best in the group II and Charanpreet Kaur of Govt College for Women was the winner in the third group. All the three winners were also presented bicycles by Nova Cycles,Ludhiana. Nachhattar Singh Malhi,vice-chancellor of the Guru Kashi University,gave away prizes to the winners. He appreciated the efforts by the Gurdwara Management Committee for taking up the cause of environment. He called upon other religious institutions to take up this cause.
