3 hurt as vendors throw stones at MC tehbazaari team

The MC team was accompanied by police force allotted to the MC for tehbazaari and demolition drivers.

The tehbazaari team of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation which went to remove encroachments at Sherpur chowk late on Tuesday evening had to face the wrath of vegetable vendors. More than 100 vegetable vendors gathered and started throwing stones on the team,injuring three in the process.

The MC team was accompanied by police force allotted to the MC for tehbazaari and demolition drivers. Also accompanying the team was the head of tehbazaari wing and zonal commissioner D Davinder Singh,who escaped unhurt.

Reportedly,zone B inspector Jaswant Singh was seriously injured along with two labourers in stone-pelting.

Talking to Newsline,Naveen Malhotra,superintendent,zone C,said,“We took staffers from all four zones to remove encroachments at Sherpur chowk. After the work was over,we were getting into our vehicles. Then veggie vendors started pelting stones on us. Our inspector has been seriously injured in the attack while others were protected by the police.”

The tehbazaari head told Newsline,“We will be taking legal action against vendors who attacked our team. They have also broken our JCB machine. A police head constable too has been injured seriously while stopping the attack.”

The MC is yet to register an FIR.
