The city on Monday witnessed two protests,leading to a traffic jam which threw life our of gear.
Members of the Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) held a protest march from Bharat Nagar Chowk to the Deputy Commissioners office where they submitted a memorandum to the DC,demanding that the October 15 night of Honey Singh and Mafia Mundeer scheduled to be held at Janpath Estates should be cancelled.
Jaspal Singh,a senior member of the federation,said,Honey Singh is known for vulgar songs and he is a blot on the Punjabi culture. We will not allow a person like Honey Singh to degrade our rich heritage and culture. Hence,we met the administration today and demanded that this singer should not be allowed to sing here in the city.
Honey Singh has been under fire for his highly vulgar lyrics,yet he is a hit amongst the youth.
In the other protest,the Norhtern Railwaymens Union held a march and dharna at the Jagraon Bridge. They were protesting against the governments decision to allow FDI,especially in the pension sector,hike in the prices of LPG and diesel.
The protesters blocked for nearly two hours the busy Jagraon bridge which is the citys link with Jalandhar bypass on one side and the Delhi highway on the other. Police could be seen having a tough time controlling the protesters and irate commuters who were struck on the narrow bridge as a result of this protest dharna.
Division secretary of the union Daljeet Singh said,The decision of the UPA 2 to allow FDI and at the same time hike the prices of diesel and LPG will break the back of the poor.
