2 months on,VB waits for MC records

More than two months have been passed since the Vigilance Bureau(VB) was directed by the Punjab State Human Rights Commission to inquire into the poor quality of roads which had withered away during the rainy season.

More than two months have been passed since the Vigilance Bureau(VB) was directed by the Punjab State Human Rights Commission to inquire into the poor quality of roads which had withered away during the rainy season. However,VB has not been able to do anything because it has yet to receive records in this regard from the MC Building and Roadways branch.

Tejinder Singh Mand,DSP,VB,said,“I have sent repeated reminders to the MC chief, and the last reply says that by next week records will reach my office.”

On the complaint of the Universal Human Rights Commission, the VB was directed to look into the matter as in the last rainy season,a few freshly laid roads had broken up after a couple of showers.

Mand said,“We want to check the details of the quality of roads. But it can be done once the records reach us.” The prominent roads include Dugri-Dhandra road,Pakhowal Road,Hambaran Road etc . A nexus between contractor and MC officials is not being ruled out.”

However, the building and roadways staff these days is already embroiled the fake bill scam in which six employees have been suspended while their inquiry is still being conducted by the MC and the Vigilance cell of Local Bodies department.

The staff members have already alleged that while the employees have been suspended, contractors are roaming scot-free.

Mand, however, said,“No one will be spared in the inquiry. If the record does not come by next week,I will have to visit the MC office personally.”
