13 children working as labourers rescued

Police and NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan on Wednesday rescued 13 children working as labourers at VS Hosiery on Bahadur Ke Road.

The children were between 8-15 years of age and included eight girls. They were taken for a medical examination. A volunteer from the NGO said a complaint in this regard was pending with the administration since two months. He added the children were presented before the Child Welfare Committee, which ordered that the girls be sent to Vanita Gandhi Ashram in Jalandhar, while the boys were sent to a government-run home in Kurali. No FIR was registered against the owner, who was only issued a challan.
