12 held; 56 cases of loot, snatching solved

They were involved in 23 other incidents and were booked in seven cases registered.

The police on Monday claimed that as many as 56 incidents of snatching and loot had been solved with the arrest of 12 accused from four different gangs.

In the first case, the Crime Investigation Agency staff got custody of three members of inter-state gang of car thieves from Bhiwani jail.

The accused were identified as Rakesh Kumar of Tosaam village in Bhivani district, Mandeep Singh alias Motha and Sunil Kumar of Bhiwani. The police claimed that it solved seven cases after interrogation of the three accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Naveen Singla told a press conference the accused were in jail in a murder case of a politician. They used to sell stolen cars in Nagaland and Nepal after preparing fake documents; they stole seven cars from Ludhiana.

However, the police could recover one Bolero from the accused till now.

The accused were booked in seven cases at the police stations of Dugri, Dehlon, division number five, Haibowal, division number 1and Shimlapuri.

The accused confessed that they had stolen Scorpio, Verna and some other cars from the city and sold them in Nagaland and Nepal.
In the second case, the police arrested three persons of Satvir gang and recovered Rs 20,000 in cash, sharp- edged weapons, a motorcycle and a scooter. The accused, Satvir Singh, Rinku Kumar and Gurdeep Singh, used to snatch phones and bags from women.

Recently, the accused snatched Rs 30,000 from an employee of Bonn Breads in January. They were involved in 23 other incidents and were booked in seven cases registered against them at the police stations of Dugri, PAU and Sadar.

In the third crackdown, three members of Sonu gang, identified as Sonu Kumar, Ajay Kumar and Aditya Kumar, were arrested. The police recovered Rs 7,000 in cash, a motorcycle and sharp-edged weapons. They recently looted a money exchanger in the city.

Three accused were arrested in the loot case of a wine contractor’s employee in Shimlapuri which happened a few days back. The accused looted Rs 9.84 lakh from him and the police arrested four persons and recovered Rs 1.25 lakh from them. Now three more accused, identified as Gurpreet Singh, Amanjot Singh and Darshan Singh, were arrested and Rs 25,000 recovered.
