With the arrest of two persons, the Lucknow police claimed to have solved the murder case of Leelawati (55),who was found dead at her residence in Baghwali Bagh on July 10.

The arrested persons are Leelawati’s grandson Jitendra and his friend Dinesh Prasad. Both work at the canteen of the Hewett Polytechnic Girls College. The police recovered jewellery stolen from her residence from the accused.

During interrogation,Jitendra confessed to the crime. “Jitendra was unhappy with his grandmother who often scolded him and his parents over trivial issues. Jitendra’s family moved out and were staying in Nirala Nagar. He feared she would give her property to someone else,” said in-charge of the Hasanganj police station,Virendra Kumar.

According to police,Jitendra and Dinesh went to his grandmother’s house on July 10,and requested her to allow them to stay for the night as the canteen was closed. They went to sleep on the terrace. “In the night, both came down, gagged her and gave her electric shocks to kill her,” said the police.
