Woman hangs self,husband jumps off the fourth floor

Angry over the remarks of her mother-in-law,a woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room in Allahabads Mutthiganj area on Friday morning.

Later,Meenu Keserwanis (25) husband Amit jumped from the top floor of his house in a bid to end his life. He has been admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition.

The couple got married in 2009 and Meenu delivered a baby with physical deformities in February. According to Meenus father R C Keserwani,Shanti Devi used to make sarcastic remarks on his daughter for delivering a physically-challenged child. Fed up with this,Meenu committed suicide, said Superintendent of Police P S Baghel. As soon as Amit heard about Meenus death,he jumped from the fourth floor of the house.

Amits father,Anil Keserwani,claimed that though some family acrimony existed between Meenu and Shanti Devi,it was not serious.

According to the Mutthiganj police,an FIR would be lodged into the incident if Meenus family gave a complaint in writing.
