The state government Tuesday told the Allahabad High Court it would wait for the inquiries to get over before taking a decision on whether to allow Noida Authority Chairman Rakesh Bahadur and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Saran to continue in their posts. The matter has been posted for further hearing on August 14.
The appointment of the two officers had been challenged in a PIL alleging that in their previous tenure in the same posts, the two IAS officials had caused a loss of several thousand crores to the state exchequer by selling plots to the hotel industry at throwaway prices.
On June 29,the HC had left it to the state government to decide if it was appropriate to appoint such officials on the same posts when an FIR was lodged against them. Replying to the HC order, the state government filed an affidavit before a bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Rafat Alam. UP Advocate General S P Gupta said: The government has filed an affidavit saying that with departmental and criminal inquiries still going on against the two officers,it would wait for them to get over before taking a decision.
