Wanted ‘cattle smuggler’, 3 aides held after encounter in UP’s Pratapgarh
Talib carries a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, it is learnt.

A wanted suspected cattle smuggler facing at least 14 cases and his three associates were arrested after an exchange of fire in the Aaspur Devsara area of Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, police said.
The arrested accused, identified as Talib, alias Chottu, and his associates Dilshad, alias Kota, Kallu, alias Waseem, and Tahir, are residents of Azamgarh district, the police said. Talib carries a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, it is learnt.
During the exchange of fire, Mannu Singh (26), a constable, sustained injuries on his hand and leg, officials said. The police claimed that they received information on Thursday that the alleged cattle smugglers were heading to Amargarh to commit a crime.
“The police set up a checkpoint in the night and spotted six persons on two motorcycles. When signalled to stop, the assailants opened fire. The police fired in return in which one of the assailants got injured,” Pratapgarh Additional Superintendent of Police Durgesh Kumar Singh said.
Two countrymade pistols and cartridges were recovered from their possession, he added. Two persons, identified as Salman and Jamal of Azamgarh, escaped from the spot, the police said.
Talib suffered a bullet injury in his right leg and is being given treatment at hospital and doctors stated his condition was stable. Of the 14 cases he faces, five are under the Cow Slaughtering Act.
The three other accused also have criminal background, said Aaspur Devsara police station in-charge Santosh Kumar Singh. The condition of constable Mannu Singh is stable, he further said.
