FOUR MEN allegedly attacked and killed a 23-year-old man with a sharp-edged weapon, following a dispute over seat-sharing on a Varanasi-bound train on Thursday. The victim, Tauheed Ahmed, succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital. Tauheed’s two brothers, 20-year-old Talib Ahmed and 34-year-old Tauseef, were also injured in the incident. The Railway Police have arrested four accused — Pawan Kumar, Sujeet Kumar, Deepak, and Mithun — all in their 20s and residents of Sultanpur district. Among the injured brothers, Talib, who sustained serious injuries, was referred to Lucknow for treatment. Doctors stated his condition was stable. “The four arrested are being questioned,” said Prashant Verma, Superintendent of Police, Government Railway Police (Lucknow). Tauheed, who hailed from Amethi, was returning home from Ambala, where he worked as a labourer. He boarded the Begampura Express from Lucknow to travel to his hometown. The accused, also labourers, were returning from Ambala as well. According to the police, Tauheed had a heated argument with the accused after requesting to share a seat on the Begampura Express. The dispute escalated, and the four men allegedly attacked and thrashed him. Tauheed later informed his brothers, who arrived with their associates at Nihalgarh railway station. As the train does not halt in Amethi, passengers usually disembark at Nihalgarh railway station, located in Sultanpur district, about 45 kilometres away from Amethi. “When the train reached the Haidergarh area, I received a call from Tauheed. He told me he had a disagreement with a few men on the train and asked me to come,” said Tauseef, the deceased’s brother. “We rushed to Nihalgarh, and when the train stopped, we boarded it. I saw my brother had been stabbed twice in the back with a knife. Before I could react, someone hit me with a rod,” Tauseef added. The Government Railway Police (GRP), however, said that the clash between Tauheed’s brothers and the accused occurred at a corner of the Nihalgarh railway station. The accused got off the train, and the clash with Tauheed's brothers occurred at Nihalgarh railway station, during which Tauheed was stabbed, said GRP Station House Officer (Sultanpur) Arvind Kumar Pandey. Upon learning about the fight, a team from the GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrived at the scene and took the injured to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the four accused reboarded the train, which then departed from Nihalgarh station. After one of the victims, Tauheed, succumbed to injuries, the police immediately coordinated with their counterparts in Sultanpur. “When the train reached Sultanpur railway station, the general compartment where the accused were travelling was surrounded and the four men were detained,” said Verma.
