Uttar Pradesh govt transfers 80 IPS officers

The SPs of 10 districts were also transferred

In a major reshuffle of police officers, the state government on Thursday transferred 80 IPS officers, appointing new ADGs for Crime and Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department.

The government changed the IGs of six zones — Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Allahabad, Gorakhpur and Varanasi — and appointed new IGs for the Special Task Force and Anti-Terrorism Squad. The DIGs of nine ranges — Agra, Meerut, Jhansi, Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Bareilly and Mirzapur — were also shifted, according to a government spokesperson.

The SPs of 10 districts were also transferred. They include Rajiv Malhotra of Fatehpur district, which witnessed communal violence earlier this month. Malhotra, who has been attached with DGP headquarters, has been replaced by Kalanidhi Naithani, who was the Kannauj SP.
A government spokesperson said the SPs were transferred in lieu of promotions, compulsory training or on administrative basis, after taking the consent of the State Election Commission. The Commission has recently issued notification for elections to the post of block development committee heads.
