Equating his party with goddess Kali who is out to “finish off the Mahisasurs” – Modi, Mulayam, Mayawati – in the assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh next year, Congress’s state president Nirmal Khatri Thursday drew lessons from mythology during his address to leaders in a closed-door meeting at the party’s state headquarters in Lucknow.
With election strategist Prashant Kishor seated next to him, Khatri said, “Ka se Congress and Ka se Kali; Ma se Modi, Mulayam, Mayawati and Ma se Mahisasur. Congress would now finish these three Mahisasurs to save Uttar Pradesh and Prashant Kishor would help us get modern-day weapons such as the social media to do so.”
Referring to his party leaders as “devtas” who cannot finish off Mahisasur by fighting alone, Khatri asked leaders to recall Vishwakarma’s message to them (the devtas) whose advice to them was to unite in their fight against Mahisasur.

“Akele Akele ladoge to Mahisasur ka vadh nahi kar paoge (you won’t be able to kill Mahisasur if you fight alone),” Khatri told the leaders, who included district and city presidents.
AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry, who too addressed the gathering, spoke to mediapersons later in the day about the role Kishor would play in Congress’s preparation for the elections next year.
“We are a grand old party but new people come. Few days ago, some professors approached me saying they wanted to work with us for the UP elections. Our motive is to win for which we take suggestions from all ends; I don’t see anything wrong in that. Prashant Kishor would be like our colleague,” he said.
