A GROUP of miscreants allegedly pelted stones at police personnel in Unnao on Friday after being stopped from using “objectionable” language against people belonging to another community. Police said the miscreants were part of a Holi procession taken out in Ganjmuradabad town. Three police personnel suffered minor injuries in the incident, police said.
Meanwhile, even 24 hours to the incident, the Unnao police are yet to register a case in connection with the incident and also
identify the miscreants. Superintendent of Police, Unnao, Deepak Bhuker, however, said that strict action would be taken against those involved in the incident. He said another Holi procession is scheduled in the Bangarmau area on Saturday.
Ganjmuradabad town falls under the jurisdiction of the Bangarmau police station.
Circle Officer, Unnao, Arvind Kumar said they received information on Friday that a group of youths was allegedly trying to create a disturbance by using objectionable language as a Holi procession passed through.
A police team reached the spot and urged people to refrain from using objectionable language. However, when the miscreants ignored multiple warnings, officers used mild force to disperse the crowd. Arvind Kumar added that angered by the police action, a group began pelting stones at the personnel. The situation was brought under control after additional police teams arrived.
