Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath during the launch of a school scheme in Lucknow on Saturday.Vishal Srivastav MAFIAS WHO had in the past considered the state government as their patron were now being sentenced to jail and people across the state and country celebrate when such punishment is announced, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Saturday.
Although Adityanath did not refer to anyone by name, his remarks came days after a special court in Prayagraj sentenced former MP Atiq Ahmed and two others to life imprisonment in the 2007 kidnapping case of lawyer Umesh Pal.
He was speaking at a function to launch the month-long ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ and a campaign against communicable diseases.
“Time does not spare any one. Remember, time pays back everyone for their actions in life. You would be seeing that today, across the state, those mafias who considered government as their patron in the past and believed that nothing was going to happen to them, what misfortune they are facing, in which situation they find themselves in, how they are being sentenced? How people in the state and across the country clap when they (mafias) are sentenced. People celebrate,” the CM said.
“They know that he (mafia) would not have personally harmed any one of them. He would have done it (crime) in any particular area. But everybody was a victim because he is an oppressor and wrongdoer and nobody stands for an oppressor and wrongdoer. Society and future generations never stand for them,” the CM said.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for increasing interaction between the teachers and guardians of students. The CM said that if teachers will provide creative and positive support, students would always respect them.
On ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’, the CM said that it was the responsibility of everyone to ensure that no child was deprived of school education and falls prey to a communicable disease. The CM said that parents must be prepared to send their children to school because the state can achieve 100 per cent literacy only when every child goes to school. The CM stressed the need for advancing the ‘School Chalo’ campaign in the coming years as a fully literate population would be a major asset for the state.
“The actions taken by the state government over the past six years are now showing results in every field,” CM said and added that in July 2017, there were 1.34 crore enrolled students but as on today there are were 1.92 crore students in the state and that increased number shows that the programme has progressed successfully.
Pointing out the condition of schools before 2017, the CM said that earlier they lacked basic amenities and the students had no uniforms and shoes. “Our government made the decision to provide each child with two uniforms, bags, books, shoes, and socks. Under Operation Kayakalp, public representatives, Education department officials, administrative officers, police officers, and alumni all adopted one school each. I’m happy to report that, as part of Operation Kayakalp, we covered 1.36 lakh schools out of a total of 1.56 lakh schools, providing them with basic amenities as well as smart classes and other facilities,” the CM said and added that the work was underway to provide the remaining 20,000 schools with basic amenities as well as smart classes and other facilities.
Regarding the simultaneous launch of the Communicable Disease Control Programme and the School Chalo Abhiyan, the CM said that it was because children are affected by these diseases. “The teachers must pay attention to the cleanliness and availability of pure drinking water. A programme about cleanliness in the schools has to be carried forward. Talking with the village head committee, the parents will also have to be motivated. The more information you can give to children about cleanliness, the more success you will be in controlling communicable diseases,” CM said.
