THE UTTAR Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested entrepreneur Sanjay Rai ‘Sherpuria’ from Lucknow in connection with a case of forgery wherein he and his aides allegedly collected money worth crores from several sources – people and organisations – by forging documents with a false reference to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Rai was handed over to the Vibhuti Khand police station in Lucknow, a senior STF officer said. The officer added that Rai’s associate, Kashif, was arrested in Noida two days ago after a case was registered at a police station there. He said central agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), are supervising the investigation and the action taken in this “high profile case.” The STF has not been investigating the matter, he said.
A police officer in Noida said Kashif was arrested after a case was registered at Surajpur police station in Central Noida area. The ED also conducted searches at some locations in Noida.
Rai and Kashif allegedly duped people and organisations of several crores using forged documents, another officer said.
