The Uttar Pradesh Police claimed that a total of 63 mafia members and their associates were sentenced to life imprisonment in the last one year as a result of the efforts made by the force.
Of the 63 convicts, 21 were listed as mafia members while 42 were their accomplices, the state police said in a press release.
The police’s law and order department is regularly monitoring action against listed 68 mafia members and their aides, it was claimed.
The police said 1,188 mafia members and their associates were named in 692 FIRs registered against them across the state since November 2022.
The police said 573 persons were arrested acting on these FIRs.
The Goonda Act was invoked against 243, the UP Gangsters Act against 717, and the National Security Act (NSA) against 18 in the last one year, the police said.
The police also claimed to have taken action against 348 arms licence holders, adding that they got bail of 25 mafia members and their associates cancelled.
The properties worth Rs 3676.96 lakh crore that these criminals had amassed through illegal means were either seized or demolished during the period, it was claimed.
