Two Thai nationals were killed in a road accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Unnao’s Bangarmau area on Thursday.
Police said the victims have been identified as Anan (35) and Sakulsukh (40) from Thailand. During the preliminary investigation, police found that the victims were travelling from Kaushambi to Delhi via Lucknow when the accident took place.
Circle Officer (Unnao) Santosh Kumar Singh said the two foreign nationals had parked their car on the roadside along the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and stepped out to relieve themselves. At that moment, an oncoming car reportedly suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The car veered off the road and hit the two men.
Both men suffered grievous injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The driver and four other occupants of the car that caused the accident escaped unhurt, police said. A case has been registered in connection with the deaths of the two foreign nationals on charges of causing death by negligence, said Chandra Kant Singh, Station House Officer, Bangarmau police station.
He added that no arrest has been made so far. After the post-mortem examination, the bodies were handed over to representatives of the victims’ families.
The victims came to India on tourist visa and had visited a few religious places. Police have informed the embassy about the incident.
