The state government on Saturday issued directives to the authorities concerned to strictly follow its prescribed guidelines to check incidents of children falling into borewells.
According to the guidelines, anyone undertaking work related to boring in the rural areas should inform the gram panchayat in writing 15 days in advance, said Sushil Kumar, principal secretary, minor irrigation.
In the urban areas, municipal officials have to be informed in the same manner,Kumar said, adding that if a government agency is carrying out the boring,it will have to get registered with the minor irrigation department.
Borewells and tubewell borings not in use should have a boundary around them, besides putting a cap or lid on top to ward off children from falling in them,he said.
