The government has reinstated head of the ophthalmology department of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University (CSMMU),Deepak Kumar,who was removed after cataract surgeries held at a health centre run by the hospital had caused infections. The suspended doctors,Kanchan Banodha and Shalini Singh,of the department have also been re-instated.
The order came on Saturday after a two-member committee headed by S K Sachan,HoD,Ophthalmology,Kanpur Medical College,submitted its report to the CSMMU authorities giving a clean chit to these doctors. However,the inquiry committee found presence of pseudomonas aerugimosa bacteria among affected patients eyes. On February 3,25 people had undergone operation at a health centre in Sarojini Nagar. Three days later,they complained of redness and swelling in their operated eyes.
