Explaining the reason for taking up the survey much before its scheduled time, the deputy director general (Allahabad) region,NSSO,B B Singh, said that in 2009-10,the survey was carried out in “conditions that were not normal”.

“The economy was going through recession. People were trying to put on hold expenditures that were not absolutely necessary. More importantly, people were losing jobs. It was, therefore, decided to take up another survey on the same matter after just two years to know if the situation has changed and get a more real picture,” said Singh, while talking to this newspaper.

In this connection,a four-day training programme of sub-regional offices (SROs) beginning June 14 will be organised at Allahabad. “The investigators, supervisors and field operators will be trained about the concept and the kind of questions that have to be asked to people,” said Singh. The SROs under Allahabad are located at Azamgarh,Faizabad and Gorakhpur, covering 23 districts of eastern UP.

Singh added the relation between household consumption expenditure and employment/unemployment will also be collated and analysed.
