Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president MayawatiBahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati alleged on Monday that the BJP and the Samajwadi Party were doing politics over the caste of criminals and that the law and order situation was equally “way worse” when the SP was in power in Uttar Pradesh.
This comes in the wake of a political storm over the death of one Mangesh Yadav, an accused in a jewellery shop robbery case, in an encounter in Sultanpur district on September 5.
The former chief minister wrote on X, “After an encounter in Sultanpur district of UP, the BJP and SP are blaming each other for the law and order and are dong politics in the name of crime, criminals and caste. They are the two sides of the same coin.”
“People have not forgotten that SP goons and mafia used to rob and beat up Dalits, OBCs, the poor and businessmen in broad daylight,” she added.
Asking people to be wary of the “drama of the rule of law” being played between BJP and the SP, Mayawati claimed that the actual “rule of law” was there only during the BSP government in the state and justice was given to people without any discrimination on the basis of caste or religion.
Meanwhile, Congress state president Ajay Rai along with other party leaders on Monday visited the family of Mangesh Yadav at Agraura village in Jaunpur district. Terming the encounter as a “murder”, Rai offered financial help to the family, saying he would write to the Governor seeking a judicial inquiry into the incident. Claiming the encounter was “fake”, he also called for an investigation by a sitting High Court judge into the encounter.
“Injustice has been done to them as one of the members of the family has been murdered. A fake story is doing rounds. The person sleeping in his house was picked up and killed. Will a person go back home after a dacoity? Both Rahul ji and Akhilesh ji are with the family against this injustice. We are here to assure the family that we will stand with them in their fight for justice,” said Rai.
Rai also accused the ruling BJP of harbouring criminals within its ranks and alleged that officials were being coerced into actions under government pressure. He also claimed the wife of the STF officer involved in the encounter has been appointed to the women’s commission. —With PTI inputs
