A class XII student committed suicide at Bangarmau in Unnao district on Wednesday — a day before he was supposed to sit for Uttar Pradesh Board exams — allegedly after his school manager refused to give him his admit as he failed to pay Rs 5,500. On Thursday, the police lodged an FIR against the school manager, Sanjay Shukla, for abetment of suicide on a complaint by the father of the deceased. “Shukla is absconding and police teams were looking for him,” said Unnao SP Mahendra Pal Singh. Police said Suraj (18) was a student of Saraswati Bal Shiksha Niketan. Though the school had recognition only up to Class V, the manager used to get students enrolled till Class XII through another school. “While students took classes in this school, the manager used to get their admit cards for Board exams from a different school,” said Bangarmau SHO Rishi Kant Shukla. He returned home and committed suicide by hanging himself with a scarf.” His father, Jagdish, came to know about the incident late Wednesday. He lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday and a case was registered against the school manager. “We have not found any suicide note but the boy had told his sister about the incident. His sister told us that the school manager had also slapped Suraj after they had an argument on Wednesday,” said Shukla. When contacted, Unnao District Inspector of Schools Shafiq Mohammad Siddiqui claimed that Suraj was not enrolled as a student in his district. “He was a student of a school in neighbouring Hardoi district’s Bhawani Khera area,” he said. Basic Shiksha Adhikari of Unnao, Mukesh Kumar Singh, said he has got an FIR lodged against the school manager for holding classes up to Class XII without recognition.
