The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to observe Forest and Wildlife Protection Month from April 8, as part of which a campaign will be launched in forest divisions to check “forest-related crimes” and ensure wildlife protection.

Officials said the campaign will involve not just the Forest Department but also the police and security forces deployed along the Nepal border.

The campaign will be conducted in three shifts each day i.e. morning shift (6am to 2pm; afternoon shift (2pm to 10pm), and night shift (10pm to 6am) by dedicated teams in each division, who would also be given responsibility to remove encroachments in forest lands, the officials said.

The campaign would also involve encouraging the public to plant trees and remain vigilant about incidents like forest fires.

Officials said while there would be proper surveillance of forest and wildlife areas during the campaign, it would also include operations to check unauthorised logging and illegal felling of trees, with a special focus on sensitive zones like Pilibhit and Dudhwa.
