Taking stern action against policemen for not paying heed to public complaints,DIG Hari Ram Sharma has stopped the salary of six station officers (SO) in Kanpur.
The SOs have been given three days to solve the complaints pending with them and report to the DIG office on Wednesday morning.
Recently,it was found that 120 public complaints received by the Chakeri police station were still pending. Similarly,107 complaints remained unaddressed at Kalyanpur police station, followed by 73 at Govind Nagar,56 at Bilhaur,54 at Ghatampur and 53 at Bidhnoo police station.
Irked over the issue, the DIG has instructed the circle officers concerned to ensure that the complaints were taken into consideration at the earliest.
Public grievances are our priority and we cannot ignore their complaints, said Sharma. He claimed that the maximum number of such unsolved complaints was registered during the Thana Diwas.
To teach a lesson to the policemen for not paying attention to public complaints, these six SOs will not be paid till they solve the issues, Sharma said. The DIG added that if the SOs fail to take up the complaints, stern departmental action will be initiated against them.
Traffic SP and media spokesman Ram Lal Verma said: The state government has been laying stress on solving public complaints. For this purpose, two hours between 10 am and 12 pm have been marked for the people to meet police officers.
He added that the police department had come to know about the large number of pending complaints during the last two months.
If police officers fail to solve minor complaints in two months, action should be initiated against them, said Verma.
