Arrested over rape charges last year, 35-year-old Arvind Tiwari was found dead in the house of the woman who had accused him of raping her in Shahjahanpur on Sunday.
A resident of Kotwali police station limits, Tiwari was out on bail, said Circle Officer, City, Adesh Kumar Tyagi. Shahjahanpur police on Sunday arrested the rape victim’s husband, a daily wage labourer, in connection with the murder and produced him before the court which sent him to judicial custody. Police are now looking for the absconding rape victim and her husband’s friend, who are named in the FIR lodged by Tiwari’s sister-in-law Asha Tiwari at the Ram Chandra Mission police station.

Senior Sub-Inspector, Ram Chandra Mission police station, Dhananjay Singh said on Friday evening that Tiwari went to the rape victim’s house on the behest of her husband, whom he knew well. Both were consuming liquor when Tiwari was suddenly strangulated by the woman’s husband.
On hearing cries of help coming from the house, neighbours informed the police, who rushed to the spot and recovered Tiwari’s body lying on the floor.
The SSI added that the rape victim’s husband has confessed to the crime during questioning. He told police that they murdered Tiwari for they feared he could cause damage to them for filing rape case against him.
