CONSTRUCTION WORK of the “grabhagriha” (sanctum sanctorum) of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is progressing at a “satisfactory pace” and is expected to be completed on time, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust member Anil Mishra said on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the Trust general secretary Champat Rai tweeted a video showing the construction of the sanctum sanctorum and the engraving of sculptures on the pillars (columns) that have been erected near its entrance on the ground floor of the temple.

“Construction of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya ji is moving forward with great pace,” the Trust also tweeted on Saturday.

Mishra said: “Work on the entire ground floor, including the sanctum sanctorum, has to be completed by December this year. The target is to complete the ground floor before pran pratishta (installation of idols).” Once pran pratistha is performed, the temple will be opened for devotees.

Around the sanctum sanctorum, 170 pillars (columns) are being erected on the ground floor to support the beams that will be laid down for the roof. On each column, 16 idols of several deities are being carved. Mishra said installation of the columns was underway. Sources said walls on three sides of the sanctum sanctorum have been erected and the roof would be made after installation of the columns is completed.
