Engineer 'commits suicide' in UP hotel, blames wife, in-laws for step in videoThe post-mortem report confirmed the death occurred due to hanging, said Circle Officer Ram Gopal Sharma, adding that the deceased’s family has not yet filed any formal complaint with the police.

An inquiry has been ordered into the death of a 34-year-old engineer from Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district after a purported video of him surfaced on social media in which he is heard accusing his wife and in-laws of making him commit suicide, police said.

Mohit Yadav, who worked with a Pune-based company, was found hanging in a hotel room in neighbouring Etawah district on Friday evening.

In the video he is believed to have recorded before his death, Yadav accused his wife and in-laws of harassing him and said his ashes should be thrown into a drain if he did not get justice even after his death.

The police confirmed that the video doing rounds on social media is of Mohit Yadav. They got information on Saturday about a body hanging in a hotel room and recovered the body from the spot, said officials.

The 34-year-old is also heard saying in the video that his wife threatened to falsely implicate his family in a dowry case if he did not transfer his house and property in her name. Their marriage took place with mutual consent and without any demands, following a seven-year relationship, he said. His father-in-law had filed a false case against him and his brother-in-law even threatened to kill him, Mohit further alleged.

He is also heard saying, “I wish there were laws to protect men too. Only then I wouldn’t have taken this drastic step. I could no longer bear the mental harassment by my wife and her family.”

Meanwhile, Yadav’s body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem on Saturday. The body was then taken to Auraiya, where the funeral rites were performed.

The post-mortem report confirmed the death occurred due to hanging, said Circle Officer Ram Gopal Sharma, adding that the deceased’s family has not yet filed any formal complaint with the police.

However, an inquiry into the death is underway, the Circle Officer said.

The deceased’s brother Taran Pratap said, “The video circulating on social media was recorded by my brother in the hotel room where his body was later found. He sent the video to me and shared it on his WhatsApp status.”

Mohit, he said, left home on Thursday for Kota in Rajasthan and the family received the news of his death in Etawah the next evening.
