Previous govt usurped land belonging to poor: UP CM Yogi Adityanath
Adityanath further said the double-engine BJP government has reined in the law and order situation in Rampur, which was infamous for its dacoits and killers

In an apparent reference to jailed Samajwadi Party leader Mohammed Azam Khan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said the previous government used to usurp land owned by poor people without giving them proper compensation.
“Before coming to Rampur, I was in Moradabad where I laid the foundation stone for a university for this region and also one for Mirzapur. Under previous governments, land belonging to the poor used to be forcibly acquired to build educational institutions or universities which were under the total control of particular families. But we build such places for imparting education to all without any discrimination on caste and communal basis. We also pay four times the compensation amount for acquired land,” said the CM, while inaugurating 50 projects and laying the foundation for 34 projects worth Rs 610 crore at an event in Rampur.
The CM further said the double-engine BJP government has reined in the law and order situation in Rampur, which was infamous for its dacoits and killers.
Earlier in the day, the CM was in Moradabad where he attended the ‘passing out’ parade of newly recruited police sub-inspectors.
Addressing the event, Adityanath said, “What was the atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh before 2017? The state witnessed curfews and riots but now no curfew and no danga (riot)…”
Talking about the upcoming parliamentary elections, he said, “I am hearing only one slogan from every part of the country in 2024 and that is ‘Phir se ek Baar, Modi Sarkar (Modi Government, Once Again)’… We believe that under the leadership of Modiji, our country’s economy… will become the third-largest in the world…”
Notably, the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University was established in 2006 by jailed SP leader Azam Khan. The UP government led by Akhilesh Yadav granted it the status of a university in 2012 and it received the minority status from the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions on May 28, 2013. Azam Khan is the chancellor of the Jauhar University, while his wife Tanzeem Fatima is the secretary and their son Abdullah Azam Khan also holds an important post.
A Rampur court convicted Azam Khan, Fatima, and Abdullah Azam Khan and sent them to seven years in jail on October 18, 2023, in a 2019 fake birth certificate case. All three are in UP jails at present.
