Police arrested a 58-year-old man for allegedly killing his daughter in Karchhana area of Prayagraj district for having a relationship with a youth.
The police said after committing the crime, the accused, a tailor by occupation, buried his daughter’s body in a graveyard, claiming that the death occurred due to prolonged illness. The police on Saturday dug out the body after obtaining permission from authorities concerned and sent it for postmortem.
“The postmortem report of the victim (19) stated that the death occurred due to electric shock. We questioned the man and he confessed to the crime,” said Prayagraj Circle Officer Ajeet Singh Chauhan.
The police said for the last few months the man had been regularly pressuring his daughter to snap ties with the youth, saying it was bringing a bad name to the family.
“On March 23 evening, he started thrashing his elder daughter over the same issue when she was alone in the house. After she fell unconscious, he gave her electric shock, leading to her death,” said a police officer.
Karchhana SHO Vishwajeet Singh said the man told the villagers the next morning that the girl died due to an illness and buried her body in a graveyard.
After the villagers grew suspicious, the police got to know about the matter and conducted a preliminary inquiry. They later sought permission from the district administration to dig out the body.
