While the state Congress on Thursday alleged that the SP government has failed to control law and order and provide protection to the people of Uttar Pradesh, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pradeep Mathur was quick to add that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav “cannot be blamed” for this.
This comes in the backdrop of senior Congress leaders, in the recent past, sharing stage with Akhilesh during government functions and the party avoiding to comment on functioning of the SP regime during the last three years.

“He (Akhilesh) cannot be blamed because he is making attempts. But he is not being able to execute his own orders, as the bureaucracy is not under his control,” Mathur told mediapersons on Thursday.
He added: “Law and order has not improved and works are being executed at slow pace for the last three years of the SP rule, but the chief minister cannot be blamed. The well-educated and young chief minister of UP is making attempts to bring investments and bring about a change.”
Asked how will he rate the three years of the SP government, Mathur said: “I will rate it as average but won’t entirely blame chief minister. He is making attempts but too many power centres in his government are pulling him down and not allowing him to work.”
Maintaining that law and order situation in the state was poor, he said: “Recent incidents of attack on journalists have shown that there is an attempt to crush voices.”
“While the government has not been able to increase quality and quantity of the power supplied in the state, the tariff has been increased to over 60 per cent since 2012. Apart from some VVIP and religious places, average electricity supplied is only 4 to 5 hours in villages,” Mathur added.
Targeting BJP, he alleged that Prime Minister’s Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana is an eyewash. “Forget about adopting a village, most BJP MPs do not even regularly visit their constituencies,” he claimed.
“When the Centre does not have funds to assist poor farmers affected by hailstorm and unseasonal rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, how will it fund smart cities, which require crores of investment?” Mathur asked.
