THE STATE Panchayati Raj Department on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT-Kanpur for a leadership and management training programme for Panchayat members in the state.
As part of the pact, IIT-Kanpur will train nearly 500 panchayat representatives to enhance their financial management and governance capabilities with the use of the latest technology. Each participant will get a certificate issued by the institute upon completion of the five-day training programme, officials said.
Officials said that the main objective of the collaboration with IIT-Kanpur is to equip panchayat representatives with “leadership qualities and management skills” to help them in financial management as well as better governance, aimed at boosting local development.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, Principal Secretary Anil Singh, Director of Panchayati Raj Amit Kumar Singh and Professor Tarun Gupta of IIT-Kanpur.
An official said, “The curriculum will be divided into five key modules – Good Governance and Leadership Development; Planning and Resource Management; Digital Tools and E-Governance; Financial Management and Budgeting; Community Participation and Conflict Resolution.”
Panchayati Raj Minister Rajbhar said that earlier panchayat representatives used to go to other states for such training but now they would be able to get high quality training in their own state.
“Training from reputed institutes such as IIT-Kanpur will help our panchayat members develop leadership qualities and adopt modern technology effectively, thereby playing a vital role in the development of their villages, blocks and districts,” said Director, Panchayati Raj, Amit Kumar Singh.
