A Lucknow court has issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against former Uttar Pradesh minister Swami Prasad Maurya, his MP daughter Sanghamitra Maurya and three others for failing to appear despite summons in a marital dispute case alleging cheating, criminal intimidation and conspiracy.

Sanghamitra is the BJP MP from the Badaun Lok Sabha constituency.

The complaint was filed by Deepak Kumar Swarnkar, a Lucknow-based journalist.

“We filed the complaint in the court in 2021. Despite being summoned, Swami Prasad Maurya, his daughter and their associates Neeraj Tiwari, Surya Prakash Shukla and Hrithik Singh failed to appear, prompting the court to issue non-bailable warrants against them,” said advocate Rohit Tripathi, who is representing Swarnkar.

According to Tripathi, it was alleged in the complaint that Swarnkar, 39, had been in a relationship with Sanghamitra Maurya since 2016 and they got married in January 2019.

“Swarnkar married Sanghamitra Maurya after she and her father assured him that she had divorced her first husband, which she did in 2021. Also, we have submitted in our complaint that Sanghamitra filed a false affidavit to the Election Commission during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, declaring her marital status as unmarried,” Tripathi added.

The complainant’s lawyer further alleged that around two years after winning the election, Sanghamitra evicted Swarnkar from her residence in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar.

The other three persons named in the complaint allegedly attacked Swarnkar on direction of Sanghamitra and her father when he was staying at a hotel in Kushinagar in 2021, the lawyer alleged.

“We have also petitioned for an investigation into Sanghamitra Maurya’s property holdings, as they appear to be disproportionate to her income,” Tripathi said.
