Days after a case was registered against a naib tehsildar on the complaint of his 25-year-old woman colleague from the revenue department on charges of attempt to rape and murder in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district, a court has issued a non-bailable warrant against the accused official as he has been absconding since, police said. The complainant has alleged that Ghanshyam Shukla (40), who is posted as a naib tehsildar in the district, forcibly entered her house by breaking the rear door and thrashed her before trying to rape her, said a police officer. Charges of house trespass have also been invoked against Shukla. Basti Additional Superintendent of Police Deependra Nath Chaudhary said they moved a local court to obtain a non-bailable warrant against him after the accused remained absconding. “Teams have been formed to arrest the accused,” he added. The alleged incident took place on November 12 but an FIR was registered five days later after the complainant approached the police, officials said. Basti Additional District Magistrate Kamlesh Chandra Bajpai said Shukla was suspended on Sunday. The complainant alleged that the accused repeatedly knocked at the main door of her house on November 12 night, adding that he abused, attacked, and molested her after securing entry by breaking the rear door. “She alleged that Shukla tore her clothes and beat her up when she resisted. She said the accused also tried to strangulate her. She somehow claimed to have freed herself and locked herself in a room,” said a police officer. The case against Shukla was registered under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (rape), 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and other sections of the IPC.
