A day after the Vigilance Department sought permission from the Uttar Pradesh government to file chargesheets against three former BSP ministers and lodge FIRs against another five,Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday that more former ministers of Mayawati government were under the scanner and could land in jail.
The action would not be limited to these eight or nine ministers. Some have already gone to jail and some more would go to jail, he said.
Though the Chief Minister said he could not say how many former ministers would face action, but under the provisions of law, action would be taken against those who are found guilty. On the recommendation of reports submitted by UP Lokayukta N K Mehrotra,in which he had found charges against these former BSP ministers prima facie true, the state government had given further investigation to the Vigilance Department.
The former ministers face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act,misuse of authority and possessing assets disproportionate to their income.
The Chief Minister, who was talking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, said the government is focussing on generation and transmission of power. In the past,no work was undertaken properly in the power department, but for past one-and-a-half year,we have been trying to bring about time-bound improvement. We will now also focus on systematic creation of transmission lines.
Apart from other projects, transmission lines and sub-stations would be established for extraction and distribution of power from the Lalitpur thermal power plant, once its operational.
In the proposal submitted by the power department, the cost of establishing such transmission systems across the state could go up to Rs 3,350 crore.
The CM said: We have made payment to Rosa plant (owned by Reliance) and are now getting supply from it. A consortium of banks, too, has given consent to give us loan under the financial restructuring plan.
