A 25-year-old medical student was found dead with injuries in the basement of a private university's hostel in Kanpur Sunday morning. Sahil Shashwat, a native of Mathura, was a second-year MBBS student at Rama University on Bithoor Road. A security guard found the body in a pool of blood when he went to the basement of the hostel for some work. He immediately alerted the college administration, and the police soon arrived. The police sent the body to a hospital for post-mortem, and the forensic team collected evidence from the spot. The police are recording statements of other students and hostellers. During a preliminary inquiry, the police checked the footage of the CCTV installed inside the hostel and found the victim was active till 1.45 am. Joint Commissioner of Police (Kanpur) Anand Prakash Tiwari said no one from outside had entered the hostel, and the police were investigating how Shashwat was injured. The police are also questioning Shashwat's hostel room partner, a third-year MBBS student.
