Mathura: Dalit family murders Thakur youth

Tension prevailed at Naugav village in Mathura after three members of a Dailt family allegedly murdered a 22-year-old youth from the Thakur community.

TENSION prevailed at Naugav village in Mathura after three members of a Dailt family allegedly murdered a 22-year-old youth from the Thakur community.

This comes after the father of the deceased objected to a minor girl being harassed by a Dalit youth. The father, Chhail Bihari, had also sustained injury in the attack and is currently admitted at the district hospital. The deceased has been identified as Brij Mohan alias Mantu Sissodia.

Prime accused Pankaj, who reportedly harassed the girl, his elder brother Sonu and their father Laloo were arrested on Sunday. They were produced before the court, which sent them to judicial custody. Police claimed to have also recovered the weapon used in the crime from the possession of accused.

“Pankaj used to tease a 17-year-old Dailt girl of his neighbourhood. The girl, on Friday evening, was on way to the market when Pankaj started teasing her and misbehaved with her,” Chhatta Station Officer Pankaj Yadav said.

The girl went on to complain to her neighbour Chhail Bihari, who was passing through the area. Bihari caught hold of Pankaj and thrashed him in the market. Following intervention by locals, Bihari warned Pankaj and let him go.

“On Saturday, Chhail Bihari and Mantu were going to market on foot. While they were passing the house of the accused, Pankaj, Sonu and Lallu entered into heated arguments with them. Pankaj pulled out sharp-edged weapon and attacked Chhail Bihari and Mantu. The incident occurred near Chhail Bihari’s house,” said Yadav.

He added: “While Pankaj hit Chhail Bihari on the face, Mantu with attacked with a sharp-edged weapon in the stomach several times. When Chhail Bihari and Mantu fell on the ground, the accused fled.”

Locals rushed the two to the hospital where doctors declared Mantu brought dead on arrival. Later, an FIR was lodged against Pankaj, Sonu and Lallu at Chatta police station.

“In the evening, when police went to arrest the three, a huge crowd had gathered at their house. They were demanding that the accused be handed over to them. The police, however, managed to pacify the agitators and took the accused in custody… Heavy police force have been deployed in the village,” the SO said.
