AT LEAST five Kanwariyas, including an eight-year-old boy, were electrocuted when their DJ vehicle came in contact with a high-tension power line near Rauli Chauhan village in Meerut district Saturday evening, police said.
They said five more Kanwariyas were injured, two of them critically. They are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Except for the minor, the other victims were in their 20s.
According to the police, the Kanwariyas were returning home after carrying Ganga water when the incident happened around 8.15 pm about 500 metre from the village. The police said the Kanwariyas’ DJ vehicle came in contact with a low-hanging high-tension power line passing on the road, said SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan. The minor, who died, was standing next to the DJ vehicle, said a police officer.
