Kaori stuns Rushmi in ITF tennis tourney

Kaori Aoyama of Japan stunned second seed Rushmi Chakravarthi of India by 6-2,6-0 in her first round singles event match of the Jaypee ITF Women’s Futures tennis tournament at Oudh Gymkhana Club,Lucknow on Tuesday.

The first round match between seventh seed Kyra Shroff of India and Pia Konig of Austria in which the former emerged winner by 7-5,6-3 was a treat to watch. Kyra displayed perfect grass court tennis which kept the spectators enthralled during 1 hour and 43 minute match. Two more Indian players Nidhi Chilumula and Natasha Palhi triumphed in their respective first round matches. While Natasha beat Chika Terasawa of Japan by 6-4,6-4,Nidhi defeated Marisa Gianotti of Australia by 7-5,2-6,7-5.

Top seed Anja Prislan of Slovania beat Chun-Yan He of China by 6-1,6-3 to advance to the pre-quarterfinals. Fourth seed Celine Cattaneo of France beat Aishwarya Agrawal of India by 6-2,6-2. In the other first round matches played on Tuesday,Stephanie Scimone of Italy beat Prerna Bhambri of India by 6-3,6-1 while Moe Kawatoko of Japan beat Ya Zhou of China by 6-3,6-4.
