Tightening the noose around notorious elements of Kanpur,the district police have prepared a list of 790 possible troublemakers from criminals to politicians who could disturb the law and order situation during the polls.
Nodal Election Officer and Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Ram Lal Verma said: We have included those in the list who have had a shady track record and action has been taken against them.
We have slapped Gangster Act on many people included in the list. All the identified persons have been warned to maintain distance from any controversy on the polling day, Verma said. Maximum people included in the list either have a criminal background or have political rivals,he added.
We will keep a watch on all the possible troublemakers through video-cameras at polling centres. The police will closely monitor the activities of the identified people, he said.
According to Verma,the district police have also identified 323 sensitive localities where there is a high possibility of untoward incidents occurring on the polling day.
Deputy Inspector General of Kanpur Hari Ram Sharma said that the 1,345 polling centres and 3,002 polling booths of Kanpur have been divided in three categories; highly critical,critical and normal.
According to Sharma,around 289 polling centres and 752 polling booths have been identified as highly critical,where extra force will be deployed. 130 polling centres and 511 polling booths have been placed under the critical category. After complete investigation 926 polling centres and 1,739 polling booths have been included under the normal category.
Sharma claimed that the district police was well prepared for any untoward incident. In addition to the allotted force,policemen at all 44 police stations and 156 police outposts of Kanpur have been alerted for the polling day, he added.
District Magistrate Anil Kumar Sagar maintained that people will have the freedom to use their vehicles for the polling purpose. Voters will,however,have to park their vehicles around 200 metres away from the polling centre, he said. Sagar claimed that 144 sector magistrates and 31 zonal magistrate will be visiting all the polling centres to ensure a fair election.
