Another IIT-BHU woman student ‘molested’ by university bus driver

However, the victim who stays outside the campus as paying guest is yet to approach the police, sources said. She claimed that the driver misbehaved with her while she was alighting from the vehicle, they said.

“The incident occurred on Sunday and the victim along with other students came to me to report it yesterday. The female student was feeling uncomfortable in sharing the sequence of events. So I called a woman professor to speak to her. I don’t know much information about the matter,” Singh said on Wednesday.

A committee consisting of Professor Lalita and Professor Gayatri Rai has been formed to look into the allegation.

“The next course of action would be taken into the matter on the basis of inquiry report. The committee has not shared any details of the case so far,” he said

Sources said that initially there was some argument between the driver and the woman outside the campus.

“The university operates buses for its students and staff inside the campus. They pick up passengers from outside the chief proctor officer and drop them at BHU’s main gate. The security guards, who are hired from a security agency, run the university buses which are fitted with CCTV. In every bus, two security guards are deployed,” said the proctor.

The campus has strength of around 32,000 students of which 18,000 stay in hostels. The remaining students are day scholars while a few stay as paying guests outside the campus.

On November 1, a girl student of the university was sexually assaulted by three unidentified motorcycle-borne men who forcibly kissed her and recorded a video of her after taking her clothes off. On the basis of girl’s fresh statement, the police added gangrape charges in the case. No one has been arrested in the case so far.
